New students are always welcome! Lessons work best if the student is old enough to recognize fractions (counting time rhythmically) and has a personal interest in learning to make music. Oh, and I love to teach adults too. We have fun, work hard, and the time just seems to fly. Schedule a time to get acquainted, talk about your instrument(s) and compare expectations.
My fee is $15.00 per half hour -- payable at the time of the lesson. I understand everyone occasionally needs flexibility (including me). Still, I expect to receive the same responsible consideration that I try to give. Students often arrive back-to-back, so please be punctual and considerate.
Practice is important for success; it takes repetition to form brain-to-finger reflexes. The most successful students are always the ones who make the time to practice and enjoy experiencing the progress that their practice makes possible.
Piano students need their own keyboard. At first, an inexpensive 49-key digital keyboard will do for learning their way around. However, learning to use the pedals and be expressive with weighted keys will, in due time, make it important to be able to practice and play on a quality instrument.
Voice students are a particular favorite. I have taught choir and coached musical theater. For most practice pieces, I am able to provide sheet music and complimentary rehearsal CDs. We will always start with a few brief warm-up exercises. You will be amazed at what a difference you will be able to recognize in your voice control with personal coaching and practice.
Guitar students should definitely have their own instruments. Bring yours to our first meeting. Or, I can help you decide on what to buy that will fit your needs and budget.
Bring your music and payment with you to each lesson. As you progress, you will move from one lesson book to another. I am sometimes able order common music books in advance for your convenience and will sell them at the cover price. Or, you are welcome to buy them locally or on-line yourself.
I believe in music. It has the ability to inspire, soothe and stir the heart. It teaches teamwork, cooperation and self-control. Music is fun to experience and even better to share. Music touches the mind and heart in primitive and sophisticated ways that are unavailable to most other skills. Let's learn to make music together. I'm truly looking forward to meeting you!
